Men's Cross Country Takes 6th at State
State Championship Recap
The Carroll men’s cross country team finished in 6th place (out of 20 teams) at the Division II State Championships this past Saturday at National Trail Raceway! This is the 3rd best finish in men’s team history. The Patriots were led by junior Kevin Agnew who finished in 10th (16:04) to earn All-State Honors. Kevin is the ninth runner in team history to finish in the top 30, which is now considered All-State. Senior Grant Arnold just missed All-State honors finishing in 36th (16:37). The rest of the top 7 for the Patriots: Drew Maxwell-94th (17:12), Michael Osgood-108th (17:20), Andrew Connair-111th (17:22), Seth Tivakaran-117th (17:27), Luke Wittman-145th (17:56). Kevin Agnew, Grant Arnold, Drew Maxwell, Michael Osgood, and Andrew Connair also earned Academic All-Ohio Honors by qualifying to State and having a 3.5 GPA or higher. The team finishes the season as Greater Catholic League Co-ed, District, and Regional Champs, and 6th in the State! Shout out to our 4 seniors (Grant, Michael, Andrew, Luke) who capped off incredible careers with a great team performance.
Regional Championship Recap
The Carroll Cross Country teams competed in the Division II Regional Championships on October 26th at Troy High School. The men’s varsity won the Regional Championship with a low score of 99 points to finish ahead of 2nd place Madeira with 103 points. There were a total of 13 teams in the race, with the top 4 teams earning a spot in the State Cross Country Championships. This was the 3rd Regional Championship for the men in Carroll history. This was also the 14th year out of the last 17 that the men’s team has qualified to the State Championships in Division II. It is also the 21st state qualifying team in Carroll Cross Country History.
The Patriot men had an outstanding team race with all 7 runners contributing to the team’s overall win. The Patriots were led by junior Kevin Agnew who finished as the individual Regional Champion! Kevin is the 2nd Individual Regional Champion in school history (Andrew Trick '09 is the other). Senior Grant Arnold finished in 7th place to earn All-Region honors and was an individual State Qualifier. Rounding out the top 7 were: Michael Osgood (31), Drew Maxwell (35), Andrew Connair (47), Seth Tivakaran (65), and Luke Wittman (78).
Our women’s team finished in 9th place. They were led by senior Meghan Schrand who finished in 39th. The rest of the top 7 for the ladies were: Sarah Ochs (44), Grace Braun (49), Sydney Thomas (54), Meredith Sanders (60), Cecilia Leopold (68), and Trinity Raber (75). Special shout out to our seniors -- This was Grant's fourth time competing at the Regional Championships and third time qualifying to State. Michael and Andrew have competed at the Regional Championships for 2 seasons, and this was Luke's first time competing at Regionals. Meghan has competed at the Regional Championships all 4 years and Cecilia for 3 years.
Divisional Championship Recap
The Carroll Cross Country teams competed in the District Championships on October 19th at Cedarville University. The men’s varsity was the Division II District Champions and qualified to the Regional Championships. This was the 16th year in a row the men have qualified to Regionals, as well as the 31st out of 33 years. This was also the 13th District Title in team history. They were led by Kevin Agnew who was the individual champion and individual regional qualifier who set the DII meet record with a time of 15:58! Grant Arnold was the individual runner-up and individual regional qualifier in a time of 16:17. The rest of the individual regional qualifiers for the Patriots (top 28 finishers) were: Michael Osgood (14th-16:43), Andrew Connair (22nd-17:11), and Drew Maxwell (26th-17:23). Seth Tivakaran (50th-17:56) and Luke Wittman (53rd-18:00) rounded out the top 7 for Carroll.
The Lady Patriots also qualified to Regionals as a team by finishing 3rd place in their DII District race. This was the 5th year in row for the ladies qualifying to Regionals and 27th out of 32 years. They were led by individual regional qualifiers (top 28 individuals) Grace Braun (26th-21:01) and Sydney Thomas (28th-21:06). The rest of the ladies who helped the team qualify were: Meghan Schrand (30th-21:13), Sarah Ochs (32nd-21:14), Meredith Sanders (50th-21:50), Cecilia Leopold (55th-21:58), and Trinity Raber (84th-23:34).
