Archbishop Carroll High School has selected Mike Pomfret ‘07 to lead a new era of Patriot Football.

“I am tremendously excited and sincerely honored to return home to Archbishop Carroll High School and Patriot Football in this capacity,” Pomfret said.  “Carroll boasts a proud football tradition and a dedicated community to support it.  We will redefine Patriot Football and build a consistently competitive program that produces teams who will be remembered for their successes on and off the field.”

Pomfret’s 15 years of coaching experience includes five years coaching high school football in Texas, including serving as Head Coach of Killeen Memorial Academy and winning a State Championship with Austin Veritas Academy in 2018.  Additionally, Mike served multiple seasons as a Graduate Assistant with the Texas Longhorns, was the Head Coach of junior college Yuba College, held assistant coaching roles at other junior colleges, and was the Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers coach at NCAA Division II Eastern New Mexico University.

The Yuba 49ers made drastic improvements following a 90% player turnover rate going into Pomfret’s first season as head coach.  The team broke a four-year losing streak and ranked at the top of the California Community College Athletic Association in key statistics such as fewest penalty yards assessed and most turnovers generated.

As a Carroll Patriot, Pomfret was a three-year letter winner and served as a team captain during the 2006 season for the most winning senior class in Carroll program history.  After graduating from Carroll, Pomfret enlisted in the United States Army where he rose to the rank of sergeant.  During his six-year career, Pomfret served overseas in Iraq and Egypt and earned several medals for his exemplary service and conduct.

“We are very excited to welcome Coach Pomfret home to Carroll" Principal Matt Sableski '91 said.  "His ties to the Carroll community and vast array of successful coaching experiences make him the ideal person to lead our football program.  We are very excited about the future of Patriot football under his leadership!”
