Fall Play
“RADIUM GIRLS”
Carroll’s Freedom Players will perform the inspiring production of Radium Girls on November 8 at 7 p.m., 9 at 7 p.m., and 10 at 2 p.m. Presented by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc. and written by D.W. Gregory, Radium Girls offers a wry, unflinching look at the peculiarly American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science.
In 1926, radium was a miracle cure and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. Her chief adversary is her former employer, Arthur Roeder, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumors could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees.
Shows start at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online, in the main office, or at the door.
The Carroll Freedom Players are directed by Mrs. Toni Weitz and led by a talented group of Carroll students.
Food and drink are available for purchase before the show and at intermission.
